The CTC family is in mourning and we wanted to share the devastating news with you. On Thursday afternoon, January 26th, Kenny Maier, a beloved member of our administrative staff lost his life due to a senseless act of gun violence near our building. His loss is a tragedy and our hearts are with his family.
We are thankful that all the students at our theatre and our other staff members were safe inside our building at the time. We immediately locked down the building and ensured the safe release of all students. In addition, we have been in communication with Louisville Metro Police and have no indication that this act of violence had any connection to CTC activities.
We also want to express our sincere gratitude to the police and emergency responders, who arrived on the scene so quickly and to a compassionate bystander who witnessed the shooting and comforted our friend and colleague.
But our CTC family is heartbroken beyond words at Kenny’s loss. At this point, we are not going into greater detail publicly out of respect for his family and loved ones who are still absorbing this tragic loss.
Our students, your children, are our highest priority and we take the trust you place in us very seriously. While this was an isolated incident unrelated to CTC activities, we are reviewing our safety and security procedures with all staff and continue to collaborate with LMPD to ensure the safest and most comfortable experience for you and your children. We have a tentative plan to resume activities on Tuesday January 31st, which we will communicate to students and parents. But will only move forward once we feel it is the safe and compassionate thing to do.
We have also arranged grief counseling and support for our employees and students.
Please keep Kenny’s family in your thoughts.
